May 2, 2004-

The final round of the 2004 Alameda Commuters, which concluded today, represented a fine, steady, and nearly flawless performance by Rick Reinsberg. He cruised to victory with a comfortable 5-shot margin. Someone remarked that he reported only one possible problem all day -- a 3-footer for par on one hole. Otherwise, all was right in his world.

The "battle" for second place, however, was exciting, as both young Joseph Bramlett and Scott Hardy played terrific golf on their respective back nines to wow the spectators along the way.

The players will split the NCGA Points, but for prize puposes, a cardoff was required. Bramlett, 16, won the card playoff with a back nine of 30 to Scott's 31! Can you imagine - a 31 not being good enough to win? Joseph, who fell back slightly after the 3rd round (when he shot "only" 71 - even par), got his focus together and stayed there all the way through the last hole. And this is a 16 year-old with experience- he was the youngest player to ever qualify for a U.S. Amateur two years ago.

Bramlett was very poised all day, whether holding one of his clubs in his hands or the microphone at the post-tournament Awards Ceremony. In fact, all of the co-competitors who were called up for comments were truly gracious and complementary to the Committee and its members for all the work it takes to maintain this wonderful tradition that is the Alameda Commuters' Golf Tournament.

Rick Reinsberg showed, once again, just how gracious a Champion he has been these past 15 months or so. Last year he won both the S.F. City AND the Commuters, on his way to NCGA Player of the Year honors. This year, he repeats as Commuters' Champion. And, he donated $500 of his winning Award to the Alameda Junior Golf Program.

He's truly a fine Champion for our Tournament.

Only Reinsberg and Bramlett managed all four rounds below par. Overall, Reinsberg's total of 268 was 16 under par!!!
