Senior Division- 2004 Final Results
May 2, 2004
The Seniors' Division of the 2004 Alameda Commuters was simply "taken" by two rock-steady rounds from Mike Butler. He played steadily throughout the 2-day Seniors' event and finished comfortably ahead of the competition. Only he and Rob Thompson were able to forge sub-par rounds during the tournament. Mike's 66 on opening, closely followed by Rob's own 67, separated the pair from the others by 5 shots. Then, on Sunday, Mike stayed just slightly ahead throughout, carding a nice 70 to Rob's 72, for a comfortable 3-shot win. He was the only Senior golfer to score below par in both rounds.
One interesting note about this seemingly quiet tournament is the simple fact that there are so many very good Senior players in the Senior Amateur Ranks. Most of these guys are into their 60s, with some in their 70s, and they still play right around par!
That makes for a whole lot of "shot my age" comments from these very good players.
Watching them, you can easily see that a 65 year-old of today is like the 45-50 year-old of 20 years ago. And GOLF is helping to keep them in fine health. It's truly THE sport you can play - and IMPROVE at - until the end.
